partial hospitalization programOur partial hospitalization program (PHP) is ideal for those who have gone through detox or residential treatment. This structured, intensive level of care can help you or your loved one build a foundation for sobriety. Evidence-based and holistic therapies help clients heal in every aspect of their lives. Athens Recovery also provides support for the whole family through family therapy and education sessions, as we believe that family involvement is a key ingredient in the recipe for success. Finally, we offer treatment for co-occurring mental health concerns in our partial hospitalization program, as conditions like depression or anxiety can contribute to substance use issues.

What Is a Partial Hospitalization Program?

Our PHP is a structured addiction and mental health treatment program that provides more hours of daily programming than an intensive outpatient program (IOP), but less than the 24-hour care provided by an inpatient substance use disorder treatment program. By offering high-quality care and support on an outpatient basis, this treatment program can support clients as they build the skills needed for sobriety in a real-world environment.

The partial hospitalization program at Athens Recovery offers services five or more days per week. PHP is the highest level of outpatient rehab, or non-inpatient rehab. Many of those who struggle with addiction are candidates for the PHP level of care either as a primary drug and alcohol addiction treatment recommendation or as an initial step-down program for transition from an inpatient or residential treatment program. Athens Recovery can accommodate candidates in either situation.

Signs a PHP Is Right for You

It is important to understand that while PHP is not a substitute for inpatient care, PHP may allow some clients to avoid a residential treatment center or an inpatient program. For some, a PHP option may shorten the length of time away from home and facilitate a smoother transition from inpatient or residential treatment to outpatient drug and alcohol addiction treatment. A PHP level of care recommendation for addiction treatment is a clinical decision that should be made only by a physician-led team. During the admissions process at Athens Recovery, we take the time to learn about your experience with substance abuse and any co-occurring mental health disorders. There is no cost or obligation to be evaluated for addiction treatment recommendations by our team at Athens Recovery. This level of care might be right for you if:
  • You’ve completed a residential treatment program
  • You have gone through outpatient or ambulatory detox
  • Your home life is supportive of your recovery
  • You’re committed to attending all therapy sessions
Even when inpatient or residential care is the safest and most prudent recommendation for detox or stabilization, the goal is for a transition to outpatient programs as soon as clinically indicated.
